The EU PI project on Rural Water & Food Security (Lot 2) holds the Kick off meeting in Beijing 6 – 8 March 2018, organized in cooperation with the Water Research Institute of Shandong Province (WRISD) from Jinan that is Chinese associate of the consortium) and International Economic and Technical Cooperation Exchange Centre, Ministry of Water Resources (IETCEC, The main Chinese counterpart of Lot 2) in Beijing.
All the European experts of the consortium will attend together with 25 Chinese experts from the Chinese counterpart institutions. In addition, two high profile EU experts have been invited to give key note presentations specifically on the European regulatory instruments, practices and directives governing the groundwater management in the EU member states, Peter Gammeltoft, who is former Head of Water Unit in the EU Commission and Mark Whiteman of the UK Environment Agency.
The meeting will also be attended by the CEWP secretariats from China (Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, Ministry of Water Resources) and Europe (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Finland), the EU delegation in Beijing, who is in charge of the EU administration of all the 5 PI projects, and representatives of the Danish, Finnish and Spanish embassies.
The aim of the Kick off meeting is to present and discuss the various activities to take place within the 6 technical work packages and thereby be a stepping stone for further progress and give valuable input to the fine-tuning of the activities during the inception period. The revised activity plan will materialise in the inception report to be presented at the PI Inception Workshop to take place by the end of June at the Qingdao International Water Congress.
